A Note from Dean Linda Schadler

Dear UVM CEMS community,

LS_thumbnail

Fall 2021 opened sweetly, as CEMS welcomed the class of 2025 to campus with an ice cream social – and helpful resources for our students transitioning to academic life and beyond. It is wonderful to see the students fully back on campus with classrooms and dining halls full and campus events happening as usual (with COVID safety precautions in place). We are wearing masks inside, so we are all learning to read peoples’ reactions from their eyes and how to project our voices through layers of cloth. But we are grateful for the opportunity to be together again!

Last year, despite the pandemic, the college moved forward on our strategic plan of transforming the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, increasing research, building K-12 and industrial outreach as part of our land grant mission, and improving the inclusivity of the College. You can read more about it in our SUMMIT Magazine! But evidence of faculty recognition and growing research is highlighted below. See also the story on the launch of our new E-Stem program to support the 600+ BIPOC STEM students on campus, thanks to a wonderful gift from Nick Donofrio.

I am so very impressed with the faculty, staff, and students of CEMS. Their commitment, resilience, and talents make me proud to come to work every day.

Enjoy these stories, and we look forward to hearing from you!

Cheers,

Linda
