Two CEMS Scientists Awarded NSF CAREER Grants
2 CEMS NSF CAREER Grant Winners 2021

Ryan McGinnis and Mads Almassalkhi, both from the Electrical and Biomedical Engineering Department, each have received Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Grants—the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty. Congrats, too, to the College of Arts and Science’s Michael Ruggiero (Chemistry), who won a CAREER grant as well. THREE CAREER grants for UVM professors is BIG NEWS!


Caitlin Grasso Wins a NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Caitlin Grasso has won one of the 2021 National Science Foundation's (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships—a program which recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported STEM disciplines who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees at accredited U.S. institutions. The UVM Ph.D candidate works with Josh Bongard on artificial intelligence (AI).

Working with fellow interns, engineers, and pilots, Shauna Kimura ’22 has developed such software tools as an interactive dashboard to view statistics on runtime for flight-test hardware parts in her role at Beta Technologies, a company that designs revolutionary new aircrafts.

Jonathan Griffin

Jonathan Griffin, P.E., ‘10 has worked for years on the Middlebury Bridge and Rail Tunnel Project and recently earned the honor of being named Vermont’s 2021 Young Engineer of the Year.
